What is RAM in computer system?

What is RAM in conmputer system?

Generally RAM is stand for Random Access Memory. The information stored in this type of memory is lost when the power supply of the PC or Laptop get switched off. The information stored in RAM can be checked with the help of BIOS(Basic Input Output System.)

Types Of RAM

                                                                    Types Of Ram

  • FPM(Fast Page Mode DRAM)
  • EDO RAM(Extended Data Out Read Only Memory)
  • SDRAM(Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory)
  • RDRAM(Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory)
  • DDR(Double Data Rate)
  • DDR2
  • DDR3
  • DDR4

FPM(Fast Page Mode Random Access Memory)

Fast Page Mode Dynamic Random Access Memory is a type of RAM that waits through the entire process of locating a bit of  data by column and row and then reading the bit before it begins on the next bit.Max transfer rate is around 176 Mbps.

EDO RAM(Extended Data Out Read Only Memory)

Extended Data Out Random Access Memory is an early type of dynamic random access memory    chip which was designed to improve the perfomance of FPM RAM(Fast Page Mode Dynamic Random Access Memory) that was used in the 1990s.

SDRAM, which is short for Synchronous DRAM, is a type of memory that synchronizes itself with the computer's system clock. Being synchronized allows the memory to run at higher speeds than previous memory types and asynchronous DRAM and also supports up to 133 MHz system bus cycling.

RDRAM(Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory)

RDRAM was developed by Rambus initially released in 1999. RDRAM is a memory technology that offers a 1.6 GB/s of theoretical memory bandwidth and offers improved memory access at a slightly higher cost compared to SDRAM.

DDR RAM

DDR SDRAM is a stack of acronyms. Double Data Rate (DDR) Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM) is a common type of memory used as RAM for most every modern processor. First on the scene of this stack of acronyms was Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DRAM), introduced in the 1970s. DRAM is not regulated by a clock.
